For users living outside of the USA ONLY

Type http://www.advfn.com in your browser what URL are you directed to?

Whatever it redirects you to, keep a note of the url.

Open the spreadsheet.

  1. Right click on the any of the tab and click "view code". This will bring up a window with code in it.
  2.  On the left side, navigate to a folder called RCH_Stock_market_function
  3. Open up the subfolder called "modules"
  4. double click "modGetAdvFNElement" and then click on the main body window
  5.  press CTRL+F to find
  6. select Search Current Project
  7. search for http://www.advfn.com and replace with the URL you got directed to. e.g. fr.advfn.com or ca.advfn.com etc
  8. Search for next and do it again to replace the next found.

There are only 2 places where you have to edit it.

Should work after that and you no longer have to ever touch the add-in again.

Don't worry about breaking it.

So easy to just delete the whole files and just replace it again.

For the Financial analysis spreadsheet only, enter the index as well as the ticker.

E.g. NYSE:KO or NYSE:JNJ

Hello everybody,

I just installed the Excel files and did everything which was recommended to fix the problems for non-USA users. I live in Germany and have tried to change the URL accordingly.  Furthermore, I chose english as primary language and changed the comma and point separators.

In spite of doing all this, the share prices are not imported in a correct manner. JNJ for example now has a share price of $  640,500,030,517,578.0  and for many value calculations i get the #value error.

What am I doing wrong?

Can it be that ADVFN supplies on its german sites the stock info in the format  x.xxx,xx and this confuses the Excel sheet? Please help me because I really would like to keep the program.

Issue solved.

The problem was the system wide Regional settings (in Control Panel), namely the list separator.

The US standard for list separator is comma : ,

In many other countries the list separator is semi-colon: ;

So, be sure you follow the instructions to the point and change not only the decimal point inside Excel, but also the list separator setting which is system-wide.

This is documented in the Installation/User guide, but I misunderstood it.

Huge thanks to Jae Jun, for helping to solve this issue!

ok i can see what the issue it.

For some reason it looks like your shares outstanding is not being retrieved.

If you enter in manually the shares outstanding and press refresh, it will work.

Not sure why it's happening to you but keep a watch out to see whether it works later in the week.

Below is a screenshot of the statement page (for ticker : MDT) after a refresh calculation:

Auto-calculation was turned OFF (under Formulas / Calculation / Calculation Options / Manual).

I will save the spreadsheet and mail it to you.

Thanks again for the help.

Can you show me the statements page?

You can save it and send me the spreadsheet. Make sure automatical calculation feature is turned off on your excel before you save.

I'll take a look and then if I don't see anything I can offer to remote access your computer and see what's up.

Hi, I downloaded and installed OldSchoolValue DCF premium_v20110104 as per advised here.

Followed the installation instructions and video to the point.

Again, same issue as always.

Here's an example run of the OSV_Stock_Valuation-v20110104.xlsm file

http://i52.tinypic.com/2114869.png

The only things that I'm unsure of is that the the installer zip package I downloaded includes only files:

Step_1-Excel_2007-2010_SMF_US_Users_Only_setup.exe

Step_1-Excel_2002-2003_SMF_US_Users_Only_setup.exe

Of which I used 2007-2010 version for my Office 2007 setup.

Is there a separate DL/install package for non-US users that I'm missing?

Thanks for the help.

If you are using ver6 then it will not work because that version has long been outdated.

Send me an email including the email you purchased with and I'll send you the updated download link.

Did you make sure to confirm to the mailing list? Or maybe your one year period ended which is why you didn't get the udpates.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately, in my case this does not help at all.

I do not get redirected to any other URL by advfn.com. I've tried it with several browsers. I live in Finland.

I can also access any data off advfn using the request from modGetAdvFNElement function, for example:

http://www.advfn.com/p.php?pid…..ymbol=AAPL

Returns the page ok, even including "Shares in Issue" on the page.

However, the spreadsheet (10yr_OSV_Valuation-v6.2.1.xls as one example) fails to read this data into the spreadsheet and fails in the calculation. Lots of cells get #VALUE! in them.

This is regardless of which stock/company/ticker I use.

I have now tried to fix the spreadsheet about half a dozen times, gone through all the posts and re-installed several times.

I always resign my efforts in frustration and I have not been able to get the spreadsheets to work a single time.

My earlier posts on the issue are:

http://www.oldschoolvalue.com/…..mp;ret=all

http://www.oldschoolvalue.com/…..mp;ret=all

None of the tricks posted so far have solved the issue for me (carefully followed installation instructions, fix instructions here and in above threads).

Is there a new version of the spreadsheet available with different/modified data source retrieval functions that I could try?
