Ouotages lasted about 14 days, now greatly reduced. Looks like it was the web sources fault, naturally.

I just reupped my subscription, totally addicted to your spreadsheets, thanks for everything!

Im going to smartmoney through IE and when I enter in different tickers, I'm just directed to the news headlines.

I have to enter the URL exactly to even get the financial numbers, but it's taking me literally 20-30 seconds followed by errors.

Looks like Smartmoney is having issues again.

Happening again now as of 9:15am. It was working from 7am to around 9am. It seems like every day SmartMoney is failing to deliver data roughly 9am to 3pm for those of us on the west coast. Every day this week at least, and several days last week (I wasn't tracking the times). At volatile market times like this one really needs tools like your spreadsheet; is there any way to plug in alternate data sources? I know some of your sheets use ADVFN but I seem to recall that source had erroneous data problems.

How frustrating!

It really doesnt matter what IE version you are using. The spreadsheet supports, win 8, any IE and both 32bit and 64bit.

I just got the error myself so I checked smartmoney and it looks like they are having the same issues as last week.

Even MSFT doesn't load quickly on my browser. Takes a good 20-30 seconds just to load.

I hope there are more people contacting them than me about this slowness.

I just have my browser up and I use CTR+F5 which is to do a refresh on the browser. I use it alot when just surfing or looking up data regualrly.

There is also a cache within excel that can get filled up which is independent to IE, so you'll need to restart Excel once in a while.

To restate the relevant part: "I'm on Windows 7 64-bit so there are at least 3 versions of IE available (32 bit, 64 bit, 32 bit no plugins) and I don't know what to clear or if that is how this should work."  - Which browser is relevant to the data loading into excel? In another thread you had an excel 2003 user clear IE 8, but that would not seem to apply here.

Thanks!

From microsoft: "CTRL+F5 restores the window size of the selected workbook window."

http://office.microsoft.com/en…..4.aspx#BM2

So, what have you linked Ctrl+F5 too?

Or if you really meant Ctrl+F5 in the *browser* like you typed this leaves the "which browser" question from my previous email as the relevant question :)

Do you mean you run the spreadsheet with a browser open so you can pop over to the browser and hit refresh? That seems a neat trick, more info please so I can do it too!

So far today I've tried over 20 tickers with upper and lower case and never once had the data entirely fill out.

you shouldn't have to IE history. If you restart excel (close it completely and load again), that should clear up the internal excel cache.

I also use CTRL+F5 in the browser which is a hard refresh.

Exactly where are you located?

Im on the Pacific as well and during the day I can still go through 15-20 companies easil. A couple stocks will have missing data but i just enter a variation of the ticker and it works.

Lower case tends to work better these days.

I'm on the west coast, San Diego. Fast internet connection and right now I'm pulling all the data and more through CapIQ but I really like the spreadsheet so it would be nice to be able to use it.

Is running RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla  a good or bad thing now? Win 7, Office 2010. Most days I don't bother running it ahead of using the sheets but some days I try it to see if it has any effect.

Thanks Jae-

I tried your method. I get different data but not full. Clearly changing the case avoids hitting the cache so you get another reload attempt. Unfortunately on days like today anytime the market is open that just means different missing data.

Do you know a formal way of clearing cache data other than restarting (e.g. deleting the history in IE ?). I'm on Windows 7 64-bit so there are at least 3 versions of IE available (32 bit, 64 bit, 32 bit no plugins) and I don't know what to clear or if that is how this should work.

I get this sometimes but not as often as you say.

It still does look to be a website issue.

Try this, if a symbol doesn't work, put it in either all caps or lower case. It isn't the spreadsheet timing out because data from other websites come in fine. It's just happening with smartmoney at the moment.

If I enter MSFT and the balance sheet doesnt show up, I will try msft and it tends to load properly.

Oh, and I did check: I'm not getting served the mobile site version and don't have that "Creative Updater" installed.

Is there anything we can do about data retrieval being very S-L-O-W ?

It's not my end, I check my connection against other sites and raw speed as well. Some days (like today) I get only about 1 in 10 data loads, so I input a ticker and the data collection times out before 90% of the data is loaded so the spreadsheet is full of #VALUE!

I check smartmoney when this happens and it seems like a lot of the time the ticker pages are just timing out. Obviously this means one can't get anything done with the spreadsheet.

Is there anything one can do? Any way to set a longer timeout so that we at least get a chance to retrieve the data?  In my experience this is happening maybe 1/3rd of the days if I access before late evening Pacific. In the evening or night it clears up. It would be useful to be able to do analysis during the day.
