from my limited knowledge as well, it varies.

I know that Einhorn has his own traders. He gives orders to his trader to buy a certain stock at a certain price point and the guy will go out onto the floor and get as many shares as needed.

Gap in my knowledge (one of many):

 

How do hedge funds, or big time money managers actually interact with the market? Do they have brokers? Do they log in to their TD Ameritrade account that has 80mil in it and just do trades? Are there special big-boy brokers? What about those stories you hear of guys who had like 200k of money from friends and family and they eventually have millions? Are there special accounts they use?
