Great to hear about this concern you have on the market movement. Also good to hear about the good year you are having.

Although the market has gone up, more than I ever expected this year, I still believe that we are going to continue trading in a range. I'm with Vitaly about the range bound market. Dow is up above 11,000 and the market is clearly optimistic with company earnings.

How long this would last is yet to be seen but my opinion (purely opinion only, no facts) is that investors are euphoric for a while and then at the slightest bad news, depressive. Will most likely continue to see big slides both up and down. Wouldn't be surprised if Dow drops down to 10,000 again.

Just have to be ready with a buy list. No point on focusing on markets though. It only adds to the noise and the desire to "do" something. This is something I have been a victim of in 2010.

Hi all,

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and hopefully a very happy New Year. Also,  a very profitable New Year. I have been thinking a bit about the overall conditions of the market and what appears to me to be an enthusiastic sentiment about the markets as we are closing out 2010. I was wondering what others thought about the overall conditions of the market.

Given that this is not what value investing is about it may be a little difficult to try and figure out the whole market sentiment. But the reason that I ask is I have some of money through my work DC pension plant that is in Mutual Funds and I was thinking back to Buffett's comment reguarding timing of the market.

Investors should remember that excitement and expenses are their enemies. And if they insist on trying to time their participation in equities, they should try to be fearful when others are greedy and greedy only when others are fearful.

I have had a decent year in the run up in the markets, but I can't help but feel as though we are into abit of a speculative mania here. I was wondering what metrics or observations others use to gauge the general feel of the market. (That is if anyone does at all)

So I guess what I am basically asking is are you greedy or fearful.

For me I am leaning towards fearful.
