Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2012

Written by

Jae Jun

This time of the year is a special one.

You may have your own tradition, or maybe it’s time to start one.

Wherever you are, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in 2012.

2011 has been a difficult year, both in the markets along with some recent family struggles. But as you may know, I am a Christian so Christmas has an extra special meaning for which I am thankful for.

But guess what? Thank YOU for your eagerness to visit this site and to learn alongside with me. I get to spend time studying, analyzing and teaching which I enjoy very much.

Posts:

Posting will be regularly once a week. I’ll try to avoid the peak holiday’s when posting articles.

Forums:

Forums are always open. The forum is still small, but it is chock full of information with rich content due to dedicated regulars willing to share and question conventional knowledge.

Shop:

The stock valuation models will continue to be available for purchase. The whole process is automated and you will receive a link to download with full instructions to your email.

A Dance Video from the Jun family:

Hope you get a laugh from this dance video of me and my family.

A Couple of Anniversary Announcements

Written by

Jae Jun

It has already been 3 years since I announced that I was getting married on this site and 4 years of running this site.

Married life is fantastic and after 4 years of running this site, I still love studying the art of investing and sharing with you my findings.

Well I just wanted to let you know that I will be away for a week or so. I’ve got some posts scheduled for when I’m away. I won’t have any internet access so don’t think that I’m ignoring you if I don’t reply.

I hope my one week absence will not upset those who need spreadsheet related assistance. Just be sure to send me an email and I”ll get back to you as soon as I come back.

It will be a good opportunity to get away from the market as well. Looks like the market is getting happy again, but don’t trust or take notice of what he does. Long term focus is where the end goal is and what you should be striving for.

See you soon. Adios~

Be Right Back

I’ve been busy packing, moving and unpacking the past week. I moved about 10min away so the move wasn’t that bad. But I had to downsize which makes organizing that much more difficult. I don’t have a desk or sitting area at the moment so posts are getting way backed up.

Always surprised at all the stuff I own that I haven’t used for years and it was a good opportunity to replace a lot of old things.

Speaking of buying stuff, I bought a new large position last week. CCME.

It’s a Chinese company and I’ve openly expressed my concerns about investing in Chinese companies, but this one was just too good to pass. I’ll talk about it soon when I get the chance.

Be right back.

Behind the Scenes at OSV

Yikes! October already?!?

4th quarter is well under way as well as the developments behind the scenes at OSV.

3rd Year Anniversary!

Can you believe that this September marks the 3rd year anniversary of Old School Value?

What started out as note taking and a method to learn, has grown from a wee little blog to 3,800 subscribers.

Value investing is an awesome niche and you are very unique indeed.

1/3800 unique to be precise :) so Thank you!

For the 4th year of operation, I’ll try to go for bigger and better things and try to provide you with even MORE value so that OSV can be called a value investing service rather than just a blog. Hopefully, we can keep building this to become a one stop shop.

Personal Stories

September also marks bi~g personal significance as it holds my birthday, my brother’s birthday and dad’s birthday.

My 2 year wedding anniversary is also the first week of October, so as you can imagine, the end of the 3rd quarter is a busy one.

To top off the anniversary, I will be leaving for Colombia and will be away for 2 weeks. I apologize in advance for not being able to answer questions and provide support for the premium stock valuation spreadsheets.

But why Colombia?

In Colombia, I will have the privilege to visit the children that I am sponsoring for the first time. Feels like getting ready for a blind date. Anxious, nervous, excited.

Thanks to the proceeds from investing and the wonderful life I live in the United States, I really am blessed to be able to sponsor children that aren’t as lucky as you and me.

It’s easy to forget that outside of the economic powerhouses, families live on $5 a month. I can’t even buy a Big Mac meal with $5 anymore.

But enough about me.

There will be one scheduled post while I am away but aside from that, I’ll see you when I get back.

Sorry in advance for not being able to respond to emails, forum posts and technical support.

P.S. Recent Buys

I bought ADBE, MMPIQ and YNGFF the last week of September. You may want to check it out. Need to restudy VSTNQ also.

Premium Spreadsheets Upgraded

To all premium spreadsheet users, I’ve just released a new version using a new data source for the financial statements. Other upgrades include the ability to edit a yearly growth rate for the DCF and more.

Check your email and remember not to enter the incorrect password 5 times.

Going on Holiday

Will be away from Friday to Monday.

I’ll be visiting beautiful Crater Lake in Oregon and hopefully get some rest after the frantic past couple of days updating spreadsheets.

Sorry for the lack of responses to forum and email questions. Working on the spreadsheets was number 1 priority and now that it is complete, you really should check it out.

Here is what it looks like in PDF form: Stock Valuation Spreadsheet.
