On Vacation

Posted by Jae Jun On June - 24 - 2009

A short update to let you know that I’ll be out for the rest of the week. Going on vacation to Yellowstone :)

I was hoping to schedule some posts for while I’m away and start the 2009 Fortune Best Stocks to Retire On series but ran out of time. I’ll be back on the 29th or 30th.

In the meantime, have a great week.

Update and Upcoming on OSV

Posted by Jae Jun On June - 11 - 2009

A quick update for readers. Whether you have noticed or not, posts have been trickling in at 1 a week. It will probably be this way for another 1-2 weeks. So to keep you up to date and not leave you in the dark, here are some ideas I have for Old School Value.

Social Investing with Twitter

Also, if you haven’t noticed, VVTV has finally garnered big institution buyers with a turnaround looking to happen soon. And rather than posting up 1 short paragraph, I have been having dicussions, receiving latest news, links and investor material from fellow investing twitter mates.

It does make life easier because I have it set up to deliver updates straight to my phone via normal text messages since I have a full time job and can’t spend a lot of time on the internet.

Some twitter investors you should look up and follow who won’t spam you (do a search for these usernames):

  • Jae_Jun (me)
  • asues
  • cavalatica
  • compoundinglife
  • Dividends4Life
  • DividendGrowth
  • FatPitch
  • jhodges72
  • ken_ipl31
  • PlanMaestro
  • shadowstock
  • stockmanmarc
  • valuestocks
  • WideMoat
  • yesandnotyes

Upcoming on OSV

Here is a list of planned and upcoming articles to look forward to.

  • Stock Research Analysis of Mastech Holdings (MHH) - I bought MHH and want to write a post but just cant seem to find the time to complete it. Still trying.
  • Book review of F Wall Street - EXCELLENT book for all beginner to intermediate investors.
  • How to Use Investment Spreadsheets - I’ll explain how I use the spreadsheets to determine the fair value of hundreds of companies in a relatively short amount of time with an accuracy of approximately 70%.
  • 2009 Fortune 40 Best Stock List - Reader Aly, informed me that the 2009 Fortune 40 list is out. I’ve taken a look and it is looking good for long term passive investors. 23 changes made to the list.

Longer Term To Do List

  • Change site design to improve speed. A little too rich at the moment.
  • Compile and edit valuation methods and related posts into a single ebook.

Feedback

If you have any suggestions, topics, questions or comments, simply leave a quick comment in the Q&A page (link at the top of page) or send me a twitter message.

Disclosure

I hold VVTV and MHH at time of writing.

And We’re Back Online

Posted by Jae Jun On March - 26 - 2009

I’m working on the site transfer. Hopefully today will be the last day of the site malfunctioning. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Everything seems to be working again. Hope the 99.9% uptime guarantee with the new host will be kept. So far, the speed of the site has increased dramatically as well.

For people that have been receiving duplicate emails, I apologize for the spam. Again it was all server related.

Site Downtime

Posted by Jae Jun On March - 24 - 2009

The site was down for over 8 hours today and so I’ll be switching to a new host starting tomorrow. Hopefully we won’t be experiencing any downtime in the process.

I’m also sorry for the confusion about the Ben Graham Net Net Spreadsheet that was posted by accident. Last night, the site was so slow and unresponsive that I just kept clicking out of exasperation and desperation and eventually gave up and went to bed, only to realize a half finish article was published. I took it down to finish it off and the full version will be up in a couple of hours.

Sorry for the confusion.

Lately, I’ve been trying to improve the speed of the site. There was a tradeoff between speed and looks with the new design, which I am trying to narrow. If you have an issue with pages or items not loading or displaying properly, please let me know so that I can improve your reading experience.

A reader informed me that he had been visiting Old School Value for a couple of months and the background was brown and text illegible from the very beginning! So thank you to all that continue to come. I hope to continue on the quality of the posts even if they don’t come so frequently.

Here is a round up of this weeks best articles I came across in no particular order.

On a more personal note, end of Dec-mid Jan is absolutely hectic for me. It’s the worst personal schedule I’ve ever encountered. Drastic reduction of sleep, no days to rest and everything happening all at once. So bear with me in my way overdue posts on the final Forbes list and financial statement anaylsis.
