The only problem that I have had with this is that there should be a catalyst that would help the enterprising investor realize the full value of the shares. The catalyst could be that the company decides to liquidate operations, send extra cash by giving an extra dividend or if someone purchases the company and does all the work for you. Untill that happens I fear that the 50 cent one dollar bills are cheap for a reason - realizing the full value might take years without a catalyst.. In theory it’s a great idea to purchase dollar bills for 50 cents or even less.
