I have 2 accounts. My 401k which is self run and what I use for everything on this site and a smaller $2000 portfolio on Tradeking.

If the stock price is above $1, my 401k I pay $7.95 on commission and tradeking charges $4.95. If you try to buy penny stocks, expect huge fees. Tradeking wanted to charge $50 in commission for when I tried to buy some real cheap stuff. Very annoying and I want to switch away from them because of this.

Sogotrade looks to be the best at the moment. Flat $4 I believe, no matter what the share price. No minimum for the discount brokerages.

For test portfolios, I just use tickerspy or marketguru. Or just use the google investment spreadsheet that I have available on the site.

Hi Jae,

First off, hell of a site.

Secondly, what discount brokerage do you use to hold you portfolio(s)? If you don't mind, could you let me know what you pay for an average transaction, and is there an account minimum?

Also, what is your favorite site to set-up practice portfolios ? (fake cash)
