Ok I see what you mean and I know what the issue is.

Yes it is an excel issue so here are the steps from how I fixed it in my own experience.

It's all related to excel cache.

  • open a new excel (not the spreadsheet)
  • go to add-ins and deselect the smf add-in
  • shut down excel completely to empty the excel cache
  • re open excel and go to add-ins again and verify that the check mark is empty
  • shut down excel completely to empty the excel cache
  • reopen excel, go to add-ins again and now browse to the SMF folder and select the new xla again
  • shut down excel completely to empty the excel cache
  • open excel with the spreadsheets

Try that. It's repetitive but that's how I've always done it.

That's not the problem.

It finds the new Stock Market Functions Add-in xla file just fine and the spreadsheet is operable.

In 'tools', 'add-ins' Rch_Stock_Market_Functions is also listed for some strange reason (even though it was deleted).

I tried removing Rch_Stock_Market_Functions within Excel by highlighting it in 'tools' 'add-ins' which is followed by a prompt:

'Cannot find c:program files…Rch_Stock_Market_Fuctions.xla. Delete from list?

I click 'yes'.

I close Excel, then open it again, yet the warning message stating it can't find the Rch xla file reappears!  I go into 'tools' 'add-ins' once again and guess what, the old Rch xla function is again listed.  Excel is not removing the old xla even though I'm instructing it to.

Edit:  better way of stating – Excel continues to refer to the old xla file

This appears to be a bug in Excel 2003?  I have yet to find a workable solution. It's quite annoying to have this 'cannot find' window pop up every time I open Excel.  Excel refuses to stop looking for that old xla add in at startup.

in the add-in list you have to browse to c:\SMF and then re select the xla file.

Refer to the manual under the section titled "second part of installatoin"

The add-in location changed from C:\program files\SMF to just C:\SMF so you have to tell excel again where it is.

I had tried the free spreadsheet earlier, the xla file residing in c:\program files\smf ad-in directory.

This file was deleted prior to installing the paid version.

However, whenever I now open excel it still looks for that file and I get an error message stating it can't find that previously deleted xla file.  Going to 'tools' 'add-ins', highlighting the old file and deleting it from the list does *not* prevent the message from re-occurring the next time Excel is opened.

How can I get this error message to go away permanently?
