If you encounter an issue where you hit refresh (F9) but you get blank, NAME or VAL errors in the statement tab or any other tab, try the following.

  • Go to morningstar directly and verify whether the financial statements for the ticker is available.
  • Type the ticker in UPPER and lower case as Excel is case sensitive and reads it differently. One may work while the other may not.
  • Close and restart excel because excel also has an internal cache which needs to be cleared. If you have a spreadsheet where a certain ticker just won't grab any data, no matter how many times you hit F9, excel may just keep retrieving the blank, NAME or VAL errors from cache.
