Half the year has flown by already so let’s quickly check how our top stocks for 2012 has been doing.

The original experiment was to have a small crowd of value investors submit and vote up or down stocks. The top 10 were then added to a virtual $100k portfolio with each position equally weighted at $10k.

First quarter performance was just mammoth at +30% but things quickly returned to the mean and the portfolio is now up 8.7% compared to the S&P total return of 9.96%.

It goes to show that you can’t judge a portfolio by quarters or even a year. You need several years of performance before you can judge whether a strategy has succeeded or not.
